Richmond Discoveries is working together with the historic Tanglewood Ordinary Restaurant to provide a series of Historical Dinners that we are calling "An Evening With..." Come and listen to the Richmond Discoveries bring history to life with prominent figures from history or discussions about historic events. Each dinner is promised to be entertaining, enlightening, and engaging. Tanglewood's famous southern comfort food, served family style, and its historic setting, will compliment each special event.

 

 

An Evening With... Patrick Henry

WWI Music"An Evening With... Patrick Henry" will be held Thursday, March 21. Joseph Bromfield will tell you about Patrick Henry's life and times that led Virginia and this country into an American Revolution. Joseph will even preform the entire "Liberty or Death" speech.

An Evening With... Thomas Jefferson

Eliza Poe"An evening with... Thomas Jefferson" will be held Thursday, April 18. Marc Holma will be celebrating Thomas Jefferson's brithday over dinner at the Tanglewood Ordinary. Meet and hear this remarkable man discuss his life and many accomplishments. An accomplished lawyer, farmer, architect, and politician; Jefferson’s amazing and long career in public life included serving in Congress, governor of Virginia, secretary of state, vice president, and president of the United States. A strong believer in an informed populous as essential to maintaining a democratic society, Jefferson supported public education and founded the University of Virginia.

An Evening With... A Revolutionary War Soldier

"An Evening With... A Revolutionary War Soldier" will be held Thursday, July 11. Our Soldier will educate and entertain your group as they learn about the life of the common soldier.  From a demonstration of the use of flags and drum signals on the battlefield to life in the camps: With a complete display of military and personal equipment, our Revolutionary War Soldier will cover everything from medicine and diet to music and firearms. Add to this a healthy dose of humor and you have a program that your group will long remember!

An Evening With... Edgar Allan Poe

"An evening with... Edgar Allan Poe" will be held October 10. Charles Wissinger will tell you the difference between the myth and the real story of the famous American author. Poe was born the child of actors in Boston, came to Richmond, Virginia with his talented mother and lived with the Allans upon her death. Poe showed remarkable talent as a youth for poetry and prose, and went on to be America's first great native-born author. Hear about his eccentric and often-tortured life and enjoy readings of some of his best works.

An Evening With... WWII Music

"An Evening With... WWII Music" will be held Thursday, September 12. Travis West and Mellen Minton will bring to life the music that was made popular during the Second World War. Join us as we hear Travis and Mellen tell us the stories behind the music that encouraged both our boys over there and the families that made sacrifices to supply the War effort. Then listen to those tunes as they sing and play the piano.

Each event will benefit a local community service organization. The Restaurant is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register, Tanglewood Ordinary has been serving fine family style southern comfort food since 1986. One of the largest commercial log structures in the country, Tanglewood once served as a tavern and dance hall. Tanglewood Ordinary is located at 2210 River Road West, Maidens, Virginia in Goochland County about 18 miles west of Short Pump.
